Welcome back is 3rd Highest opening of 2015 ahead of Brothers
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is highest and ABCD2 is second highest opening of 2015 .
Welcome Back is having a higher day 1 than Brothers on lower number of screens.
For John Abraham this is second highest opening day of his career and is slightly lower than Race 2 and ahead of Housefull 2 both of whom were actually multi starers.
Welcome back has opened extremely well in all mass centers Bihar, UP, Rakjasthan , Gujarat and in all single screens. In metros and multiplexes it is a little lower but still very good.
The opening is surprisingly beyond what Trade expected the movie to do.

The opening is only due to goodwill enjoyed by the 2007 welcome as opening has come without a big hero or hit music.
This opening shows the power of sequels
It is also a reminder that if a star of Akshay's level or more would have been there the opening would have been even more.
Welcome back is targeted at masses and is a movie suited to collect big numbers at the box office but its only problem is the huge cost that it has.
Welcome back is set to open big and have a big weekend also but as there are continuous flow of movies in the coming week and the window is small so it will all depend on weekdays to see how much of its cost can it recover
Welcome Back is ahead of Brothers in Rajasthan and CI while it is also ahead of ABCD 2 in gujarat which sets it up nicely as 2nd highest in opening shows.
Budget: 100 Crores
Production Cost: 80 crores and Prints and Advertising cost 20 Crores . It was again a movie conceptualized 3 years ago with a hope for large amount coming in for satellite rights but market has crashed now.
Welcome itself had some of the highest TRPs whenever it was screened and welcome back is in the same genre so it should still get a good amount whenever the rights are sold.
Economics:
Welcome back is a big budget movie and has been sold on advance to Eros by producers the big caveat being if it fails to collect more than a certain number than producers will have to return money to Eros.
Producers of the movie have had a track record of mismanaging finances and delaying salaries of actors and payments to financiers which is why probably akshay is not doing this movie.
There were court cases and rumours that John Nana and Anil have not been paid before the release of the movie but somehow despite all this movie has released
